We were contacted by the operators of an office block in London as they were having issues with water supply and kept having booster set troubles. The existing booster set had failed and they rushed to get it back working with a little DAB E.sybox as a temporary fix. After realising this was not up to the job we were called in to supply a permanent solution.
We always like to take an larger overview of the situation and upon talking to the client in a bit more depth we found out that the booster pump was actually boosting off the mains water supply! This is not allowed and very bad practice so we needed to install a water supply tank to go with a new booster set. This situation is the perfect application for our PUK VARI TANK booster set because the tank and pump are supplied as a single integrated unit.
After looking at the demands required for this office block we settled on a twin pump system inside a 1000 litre tank. This will provide an extra pump for high demand situations and built-in redundancy for the unlikely occasion of a failure. All PUK VARI TANK twin pump systems feature our easy to use control panel with our special ‘Safety Fill’ technology. In the event of a power failure this technology is designed to start one pump slowly to refill the vertical riser pipework with water before the system starts fully. This greatly reduces the risk of pipework damage from sudden ‘water hammer’ shocks you can get from other booster pump sets as there are no sudden starts.
Our initial idea was to mount this set on the existing pad the old booster set was mounted on, but due to the size of the tank and pipework configuration this wasn’t going to be the best solution. The PUK VARI TANK is a very quiet and vibration free system thanks to the damping actions of the water itself so the pad isn’t necessary. We chose to install the set in the corner of the room to be tucked out of the way and placed some carpet tiles underneath to separate it from the cold concrete floor. This isn’t required as our water tanks are thermally insulated (unlike many others) but every bit helps!
We adapted the pipework to suit the new location, added an 80 litre Imera draw down vessel to the outlet for smooth operation and added insulation as a final touch. We ran our commissioning checks, dialled the inverters in for optimal performance and we were complete. The customer was very happy that they now have a reliable water supply and our engineers then set off for the next job.
Great work team. Teamwork makes the dream work.
