Large Custom Cold Water Booster Pump for Hotel

We were contacted by the hotel maintenance team because their existing cold water booster pump was constantly failing.

Following a site meeting, it was clear from what we saw, that the existing pumps that had been installed, under a fairly recent redevelopment of the hotel, were completely wrong and not fit for purpose.

The pumps that had been installed were end suction pumps, which meant that they were struggling to maintain a constant pressure throughout the hotel. A previous contractor had attempted to install pressure regulation valves on each pump, to try and overcome the problem, however this did not cure the problem. It instead over stressed the existing pumps, leading them to fail.

At the point the hotel contacted Pumps UK, the existing set was down to only 2 functional pumps, which they had to control manually to provide basic water services to the hotel. Their concern was, at any point they could lose the last 2 pumps and the hotel would have been forced to close.

We carried out a full in-depth survey, recording the total amount of outlets across the hotel and calculated the pressure and flow requirements.

We selected our PUK VARI COM 3 XL 20 as the right pump for this application. Due to the location of the tank room, the set had multiple discharge directions and we needed to modify our set to cater for this. We had to produce a bespoke suction manifold to suit the existing tanks and provide an equal draw down on both. We manufactured an additional connecting manifold, so the discharge of the set lined up exactly in the right place and reduced the pipework modifications required while providing more room for future access and maintenance.

We planned with the client a shutdown day and arrived armed with our experienced service team and everything we needed to complete the job as fast as possible. We had to completely strip the old plant to remove it from the building and provide the space we needed to start the work. Our team then had the task of manoeuvring the new PUK VARI COM set into place using a selection of lifting equipment and good old fashioned hard work. Our pre-planning work proved itself invaluable as everything fitted like a glove and our team sailed though the installation.

We managed to keep the interference to the running of the hotel to an absolute minimum and had the services back on within 6 hours!
