Outdoor Booster Pump Replacement

We were contacted by one of our good customers who were in a bit of trouble. At one of the sites they manage there was an outdoor booster pump failure which had lost water supply to a residential block of flats just before the weekend. They needed to get the water back urgently so we had to pull out all the stops.

The existing set was located outside and had been exposed to the elements used by a leaking enclosure. To top this off the existing pumps had been installed incorrectly causing the seals to fail and water to enter the motors. This meant that the set was beyond repair and a new solution needed to be found fast.

We attended on an ’emergency breakdown’ callout to install a new pump. Luckily we had been in the process of updating the design of our popular PUK VARI BOOST pump and had just built a prototype of this new generation. This meant that we could install this temporarily to provide water while a permanent solution was built with means to protect it from the elements.

Our engineers manufactured a new generation PUK VARI TWIN that could utilise our special ‘safety fill’ feature. This system helps to prevent a sudden shock to the pipework when restarting after a power failure or unplanned system restart.

Working with one of our suppliers we developed a new kiosk (enclosure) sized to fit the pump and the existing concrete pad on site. We will now offer these for sale to complement our booster range. We wanted to ensure reliable operation in winter so we installed a thermostatically controlled heater unit inside the kiosk that turns on when the temperature drops below a pre-set level.

Our engineers then attended the site in London, built the new kiosk and mounted the pre-commissioned PUK VARI TWIN in position. We had to undertake some minor pipework modification and insulate the pipes for energy efficiency.
