Pumps UK was contacted by a client to replace an old set of belt driven Pullen pumps in their office block in Aldgate, London.
We decided that a suitable replacement for the old Pullen pumps would be a set of direct drive circulators. After we had taken out the old pumps we had to build a bespoke frame simply because the pumps were located on the roof top plant room and meant that we needed to transport the pumps up the stairs. Our in house engineer fabricated a frame which had a runner and installed it on the plant room’s stairs.
Before installing the new circulators, we replaced all four 10” gate valves along with the gearbox valve handles. We managed to transport both of the new pumps to the roof where we rebuilt them in position and constructed all new pipework to suit. We then installed new check valves on the discharge of the pumps.
Once we had installed everything we insulated the pipework using aluminium box lagging.
